How to find blogs to guest post on
I talked a bit about guest posting in my first book – How to Make Money Blogging – and I mentioned that it was one of my favorite ways to get traffic and increase an audience. While I think it’s a little more difficult to do today than it was a few years ago, it’s still well worth the effort and should remain high on your to-do list.
The absolute best way to guest post is to post with bloggers you have a relationship with. Your odds of getting your post published dramatically improve when you do it this way.
First Impression
So, just like any other relationship advice you’d get, you shouldn’t make your first impression just by asking for a favor. First, introduce yourself. Try to be helpful and make yourself useful. Be a friend. Then, offer to guest post and make it as beneficial for the other blogger as possible but don’t be pushy.
Blog Commenting
Blog commenting is always a good way to start a relationship with other bloggers, but you should also find out where they spend time online. Are they always on Twitter? Retweet their stuff. Are they always on Facebook? Share something from page and tag them. Also, try to email them with any kind of helpful feedback you can provide. You get the picture.
The goal is to connect with them on a personal level and put the time and energy into the relationship before asking for the favor.
Finding Bloggers
So, now that we have the approach and method out of the way, let’s chat a little about finding new bloggers who you can connect with.
To find some new bloggers, let’s go to Google and try this search:
“related keyword” “guest post”
Replace “related keyword” with a similar keyword to your niche and try a few different variations. For example:
This search will almost always yield good results. What’s great about it is that it will likely put you in touch with some bloggers you may not yet know as well as point you to bloggers who have accepted guest posts in the past.
Finding Blogs
If you have your sights set on a couple of big blogs and you aren’t sure whether they accept guest posts, you can run this search at Google:
site:blogname.com “guest post”
Replace “blogname.com” with the blog you’re trying to get info about. This search will reveal any instances of the phrase “guest post” on the blog. For example:
As a wrap-up, guest-posting is a great way to get your name and blog out there and create lasting relationships with other bloggers in your niche so make sure it remains top of your priority list!
